Reddittle is a search engine by Swee Kiat Lim that only searches Reddit.com. Add the prefix r/<subreddit> for a specific subreddit. Here are searches for machine learning and ChatGPT.

PimEyes

PimEyes is a paid-for service that searches for faces on the internet. $30 dollars a month, you can try PimEyes for free. More from the New York Times.

Oldest Search

Oldest Search reverse-orders all Google search results so that you see the oldest web pages first. Two other approaches that I use, include i) WayBackMachine and ii) Google Search using the search operator [ cache: ].

Search Atlas

In private beta, Search Atlas makes it easy to see how Google provides different responses to the same query in different parts of the world. It displays 3 sets of links—or images—from different countries for any search. This would be an excellent tool for educators. Let’s hope that it comes out of private beta.

Andi Search

Andi is an intelligent AI search assistant that uses natural language input and a chatbot interface to answer specific questions and gives direct answers where possible. Try Andi Search if you’re looking for specific information about a subject or place.

Most people haven’t heard of Internet Archive Scholar. Similar to Google Scholar, Internet Archive Scholar includes >25 million research articles and other scholarly documents preserved in the Internet Archive, from digitized copies of 18th-century journals to the latest Open Access conference proceedings and pre-prints crawled from the Web. New Search Engines

I joined the beta of the ad-free search engine Neeva. Search engine Brave is also in public Beta. Both focus on user privacy. Take a look at DuckDuckGo's traffic. Capturing Google's market share is no easy task. Plenty of startups are lining up.

See a Satellite Tonight

Do you want to see a satellite tonight? From Google vision engineer James Darpinian, search for viewing times based on your location. Layer in a street view and schedule a reminder to go outside and look. No telescope is required.

• Mobile and abundance are causing information-seeking behavior to change.

• YouTube published a new set of insights with information about the most popular video topics since the pandemic started. Categorized as a search engine, YouTube is the 2nd most popular.

• Web searches for acute anxiety are at an all-time high, with 375,000 more searches than expected for a total of 3.4 million searches.

• Bangs are DuckDuckGo shortcuts that take you to search results on other sites. Searching [ !w machine learning ] at DuckDuckGo searches machine learning at Wikipedia. There are more than 10,000 Bangs, including New York Public Library [ !nypl ]. You can even submit your own.

• Over a year ago, Google released Dataset Search. There are now more than one hundred Covid19 datasets.

• Cornell's Macaulay Library is a scientific archive of 150,000 bird calls and animal sounds. Listen to the cry of red-throated loons from Neiden Fjord, eastern shore, Finnmark, Norway.
